Taxi in Kotor: prices, the rank by the Old Town and routes around the bay (2026)
In short
Kotor is the walled medieval town deep in the Bay of Kotor and Montenegro’s main cruise port. A taxi to Tivat Airport is 9 km and €15–25, to Budva 23 km and €25–35, to Perast €15–20, to Herceg Novi €25–35, to Lovćen and Njeguši €50–70 return with waiting. The rank is by the Sea Gate opposite the cruise pier and at the bus station; the Old Town is pedestrian. Uber and Bolt do not operate; a request through Budva Taxi App shows the tariff estimate, the driver confirms the price, and you pay in cash with no commission.
- Kotor–Tivat Airport: 9 km, 15–20 minutes, €15–25. The cheapest airport transfer on the coast.
- Kotor–Budva: 23 km via Tivat or the Trojica pass, 35–45 minutes, €25–35. Bus €3–4 every 30–60 minutes.
- Kotor tariff: €1 flag-fall, €1/km, night €1.20–1.30/km. Within town €3–6. Price per car.
How much is a taxi from Kotor
Prices per car (1–4 passengers). “Through the app” is the Budva Taxi App tariff estimate, refreshed hourly; “at the rank” is what drivers at the Sea Gate asked according to summer 2026 reports; “bus” is from Kotor bus station.
| To | km | min | At the rank | Through Budva Taxi App | Bus |

| Tivat Airport | 9 | 33 | €15–25 | €17 | €2–3 (to the road) |

| Podgorica Airport | 78 | 87 | €75–120 | €141 | €7–9 to the bus station |
Out of town the price per car is agreed before you get in; in town the meter runs. Figures in the app column are an informational tariff estimate; the driver confirms before the trip.

Where the taxis are and where they can go
Kotor Old Town is closed to cars. The main taxi rank is on the square outside the Sea Gate (Vrata od Mora), opposite the cruise pier and the main car park; the second is at the bus station 10 minutes’ walk south; the third at the North Gate (Vrata od Škurde) by the Škurda river. Inside the walls it is on foot only — any address is 2–5 minutes away.
Hotels along the Dobrota waterfront (2–5 km north) and in Muo or Prčanj across the bay are reached door to door; the bayside road is narrow and jams on summer afternoons with cruise coaches.
Tivat Airport — 9 km, the shortest road
From the airport to Kotor is 9 km via Tivat and the pass, 15–20 minutes, €15–25 at the terminal (up to €30 at night). That beats any bus with a change: there is no direct bus from the airport to Kotor, only from the road-side stop 1.5 km away. For a morning flight send the request the evening before — drivers from Kotor and Tivat confirm and come to the Sea Gate.
Podgorica Airport — 90 km via Budva or over Cetinje and Lovćen (beautiful, but hairpins), 100–120 minutes, €75–120. No bus to the terminal.
To Budva, Perast, Herceg Novi and around the bay
Budva — 23 km: via Tivat and the Adriatic Highway (faster) or over the Trojica pass (views of the bay), 35–45 minutes, €25–35; bus from the bus station €3–4. Perast — 12 km along the bay, 15–20 minutes, €15–20; the boat to Our Lady of the Rocks leaves from Perast. Herceg Novi — 25 km, 30–40 minutes, €25–35. Porto Montenegro — 10 km, €15–20.
Cruise passengers: in a 4–5-hour stop you can do Perast (half a day, €40–50 with waiting) or Budva (€60–70 with 2 hours’ waiting). Agree the waiting time up front.
Lovćen, Njeguši and the serpentine road
The old Kotor–Cetinje road with its 25 hairpins is the classic excursion from Kotor: viewpoints over the bay, the village of Njeguši (prosciutto and cheese), the Njegoš mausoleum on Lovćen. Taxi return with 2–3 hours’ waiting — €50–70 to Njeguši, €70–90 to the mausoleum; one way to Cetinje €35–45. Since 2023 the alternative is the Kotor–Lovćen (Kuk) cable car from Dub — 8 km to the lower station, €10–12 by taxi.
The hairpins are hard on the stomach; with children go in the morning with stops. Agree the price for the whole trip, waiting included, before you get in.
Tariff, ordering and payment
Kotor tariff: €1 flag-fall, €1 per km, waiting €0.20–0.30/min, night €1.20–1.30/km. Within town and to Dobrota €3–6. Ordering: Budva Taxi App (request with a tariff estimate, cash to the driver, no commission — Kotor is in the app’s zone), phone/Viber to Kotor companies, or the rank at the Sea Gate.
Cash in euros; cards are rare. ATMs at the Sea Gate and inside the Old Town on Arms Square. Official taxi — yellow TAXI sign, “TX” plate.
Cruise days: by 09:00 there is a queue of cars at the Sea Gate and “cruise prices” run 20–30% higher. A request through the app for a set time — or a 10-minute walk to the bus station — solves it.
