Which airport is closest to Budva: Tivat, Podgorica or Dubrovnik (2026)

Tivat (TIV) — 21–23 km to Budva along the Adriatic Highway, 35–45 minutes; taxi at the terminal €50–70 (€70–80 at night), bus from the road 1.5 km away €3–4.50. One arrivals hall, ATM, exchange desk; closes after the last flight. 1.34 million passengers in 2025, almost all between April and October. UK: BA from Heathrow (since May 2026), easyJet from Gatwick, Luton, Manchester and Bristol, Jet2 from Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham and Leeds Bradford.

Podgorica (TGD) — 60 km to Budva: 60–75 minutes through the Sozina tunnel, 80–90 over Cetinje; taxi €50–95 depending on season and hour, bus only from Podgorica bus station (7 km). Open around the clock and year-round; Wizz Air base since March 2026, Ryanair from Stansted, Air Serbia several times a day from Belgrade, Turkish Airlines from Istanbul.

Dubrovnik (DBV) — 90 km to Budva across the Debeli Brijeg border: 2–3 hours, with border queues up to 2 hours on summer Saturdays. Transfer €120–180 per car, and only with operators holding an international licence — an ordinary Montenegrin taxi or an app request does not cross the border. To Herceg Novi — 40 km, €60–90.

Winter (November–March): Tivat’s schedule shrinks to a handful of weekly flights (mainly Belgrade and a few European cities), and Podgorica takes almost all traffic. In winter there is usually no choice — Podgorica, and a €50–70 taxi to Budva on empty roads in 60 minutes.

Count for the whole party. The taxi difference between Tivat and Podgorica is €0–25 per car (€50–70 against €50–95); the time difference is an hour. If fares to Podgorica are €40–50 per person cheaper, that is €80–100 saved for two against an hour on the road — Podgorica pays off. For one traveller the threshold is about €30.

Dubrovnik rarely pays off: 90 km, a border, a €120–180 transfer and licensed operators only. The exceptions are a hotel in Herceg Novi, or a fare €100+ per person cheaper.

Summer: direct to Tivat with BA, easyJet or Jet2 from London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham or Leeds — the simplest option for Budva. Year-round: Ryanair from Stansted and Wizz Air routes to Podgorica; connections via Belgrade (Air Serbia), Vienna (Austrian) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines). Dubrovnik has many UK flights, but for Budva the border makes it the worst of the three.

Rule for UK travellers: summer — Tivat direct; winter — Podgorica via Stansted or a connection. No visa for stays up to 90 days.

At both Montenegrin airports there are taxis at the terminal, the price is negotiated per car and higher at night.
